Addemdum to September 11 Post

09-12-2020NewsletterJeff Looker, Senior Coordinator

I would like to propose an addendum to my letter of last Friday, where I said- "It is easy to get bogged down amid the noise and confusion of our modern world and the variety of voices and opinions that scream for our attention. We need to avoid the temptation of reverting to self-reliance and human wisdom that is rooted in fear and control....Eternal perspective is what is needed at this moment in history."

With social media's influence on all of us and the ready access to conflicting news reports about topics such as Pope Francis and his orthodoxy, the pros and cons of a variety of political topics such as the coming of the end times, the proper response to the pandemic and restrictions such as mask-wearing, sheltering in place etc... I would urge all members to "Make love your aim" (1 Cor 14:1)

One of my primary responsibilities as Senior Coordinator is to maintain and foster the unity of our body. While I have my own opinions about a variety of controversial issues, I am called to leadership that includes charity toward every one of our members, regardless of my personal opinions. I would urge all of our members to; " pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding" (Rom 14:19).

Our enemy, Satan, seeks to divide and accuse the brethren--and none of us should assist him! Strongly held personal opinions without the appropriate charity for the conclusions another brother or sister have made in good conscience (not related to objective Catholic moral teaching) can create disunity and confusion. We all need to agree on certain truths, but there is a wide variety of topics that we don't need to agree on. Freedom allows this; "where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom" (2 cor 3:17). Amen?

Blessings, Jeff
